NU Online News Service, Sept. 25, 10:22 a.m. – Conseco Inc., Indianapolis, has hired William Shea, a former chief financial officer of BankBoston Corp., Boston, as president and chief operating officer.

Shea will be replacing Tom Kilian. Kilian will become president of a new Conseco Life and Retirement Services unit, Conseco says.

Shea was CFO at BankBoston, one of the biggest banks in the United States, from 1993 to 1998. Since then, he has served as a turnaround specialist at View Tech Inc., Camarillo, Calif., a videoconferencing company, and Demoulas Supermarkets Inc., Tewksbury, Mass., a grocery chain hurt by a court battle between the heirs of the founders.

Shea has also worked as a consultant in the Boston office of Coopers & Lybrand.
