Conference To Look At Global Private Health Insurance Systems

NU Online News Service, Sept. 4, 11:15 a.m. – The Academy for International Health Studies, Concord, Calif., is holding a conference Dec. 2-5 in Miami on privately financed health care systems around the world.

Sessions will focus on topics such as whether the U.S. private health care system is a good model for the rest of the world; the state of the private health sector in Africa; world trends in health insurance regulation and deregulation; assessing the costs and benefits of vaccination programs; and the progress of Spanish health care projects in South America.

Speakers will include Dr. Alexander Preker, chief economist for health, nutrition and population at The World Bank, Washington; William Savedoff, a senior health economist at the Inter-American Development Bank, Washington; and Terry Kendall, president of the employee benefits division at CIGNA International, a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia.

Sponsors include CIGNA International; the Health Insurance Association of America, Washington; Milliman USA, Seattle; and the American Association of Health Plans, Washington.
