NU Online News Service, Aug. 2, 1:23 p.m. – The Minneapolis office of Milliman USA Inc. says 16 individual disability insurers it surveyed accepted 73% of the consumers who applied for coverage in 1999.

W. Scott Gilliam, the researcher who conducted the survey, found that the participating carriers offered 74% of the applicants who were approved standard contracts at standard rates, according to a report published in the July edition of the Milliman Disability Newsletter.

The insurers added clauses excluding coverage for certain conditions to 13% of the policies offered.

The insurers asked for higher rates for 8% of the policies offered, and demanded both higher rates and extra exclusion clauses for 5% of the policies offered.
