NU Online News Service, July 25, 1:30 p.m. – UnumProvident Corp., Chattanooga, Tenn., will be offering telephone sales support for workers in large group benefits programs.

The telephone support staff will answer questions about long-term care insurance and voluntary life insurance as well as disability insurance, the company says.

Traditionally, many insurers and agents have depended on enrollment firms to help workers. UnumProvident believes its own support staff should be able to do a better job of answering questions about UnumProvident products, the company says.

UnumProvident Sales Support Center units in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Worcester, Mass., will run the enrollment service.

The centers normally focus on providing quotes for agents and brokers. In 2000, they answered 380,000 calls and generated 650,000 proposals, according to UnumProvident.
