NU Online News Service, July 17, 12:35 p.m. – AmerUs Group Company, Des Moines, Iowa, says it is putting all life insurance operations under the management of Gary McPhail.

McPhail, president of AmerUs Life Insurance Company, will keep that title and also serve as head of a new AmerUs Life Insurance Group.

The group will run the newly acquired Indianapolis Life Insurance Company, Indianapolis, as well as AmerUs Life; Bankers Life Insurance Company of New York, Woodbury, N.Y.; and Western Security Life Insurance Company, Indianapolis.

Together, the companies generated about $90 million in revenue in 2000, AmerUs says.

Larry Prible, president of Indianapolis, has already announced plans to retire later this year, AmerUs says.

AmerUs issued a statement praising Prible’s community leadership and promising to support charitable organizations and community events in Indianapolis.

Combining the management of Indianapolis Life and its subsidiaries with the management for other AmerUs life operations should help the company coordinate distribution systems and product development, and maximize returns on the company’s brand names, AmerUs says.

AmerUs is also forming a central product management group for the new life group.

Brian Clark, the chief financial officer and top product manager at AmerUs Life, will be the group’s chief product officer.

David Brentlinger, a vice president at Indianapolis Life, will be the chief financial officer.
