The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has recruited a volunteer force of insurance industry professionals to get 150 young children in Los Angeles excited about reading.
The Western division of the Los Angeles-based foundation is working with the people who make “Sesame Street” to offer an “Every Day is Reading and Writing Day” event Oct. 12.
The division is sending insurance agents, brokers, consultants, home-office employees and other volunteers to play literacy games with small children, help them color their ABC’s, and help them make their own books.
That’s just one of about 250 service projects the knights of the foundation are organizing in 70 communities in the United States and the United Kingdom for its annual Week of Giving Campaign, which is set to start Oct. 8.

Week of Giving coordinators expect about 8,500 insurance industry professionals to participate.
Industry leaders started the foundation in 1994 to bring the entire insurance industry together to work for the common good.
“We enable competitors to work side-by-side for their communities,” the foundation says.
