A California wealth manager who is a registered representative for LPL Financial and also runs his own advisory firm was charged Wednesday with three felonies, including vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, over a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of an Oakland man.

On May 9, Timothy Hamano, 64, of Piedmont, California, struck Gregory Turnage Jr., 41, with his Lexus, got out of his car, looked at the severely injured Turnage and took off on foot — leaving behind his wife, who was still in the front passenger seat behind a deployed airbag, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday.

Turnage died from his injuries. Hamano turned himself in one day later, after Oakland police issued a warrant for his arrest.

LPL and Hamano did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday.

The other felonies Hamano was charged with were for leaving the scene of an accident [Death/permanent serious injury] and special allegation-fleeing the scene of the crime, according to Alameda Superior Court records. His arraignment is scheduled for July 28.

Hamano has been registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority since 1980, according to FINRA’s BrokerCheck website. He has been a broker and advisor with LPL since 1999. He also has been an RIA through his own firm, Hamano & Associates, since 2018. Hamano was still registered as a broker and advisor as of Thursday, according to BrokerCheck.

The cause of the car accident was not immediately clear. But Hamano reportedly had been drinking earlier in the day, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
