A few more life and health insurers have released their earnings.

LIFE AND ANNUITY

American International Group Inc., New York (NYSE:AIG)

4Q 2010 Results

NET INCOME: $12 billion

REVENUE: $21 billion

4Q 2009 Results

NET INCOME: $9 billion loss

REVENUE: $19 billion

- In the United States, AIG’s SunAmerica financial unit is reporting $1.3 billion in pretax income on $4.9 billion in premiums, deposits and other considerations for the fourth quarter of 2010, compared with $670 million in pretax income on $5.3 billion in premiums, deposits and other considerations for the fourth quarter of 2009.

- SunAmerica life sales and deposits increased to $496 million, from $437 million, with term life sales increasing to $27 million, from $20 million, and universal life sales increasing to $34 million, from $28 million.

- SunAmerica deferred annuity sales and deposits increased to $256 million, from $196 million.

CNO Financial Group Inc., Carmel, Ind. (NYSE:CNO)

REVENUE: $1.1 billion

- Washington National sales of supplemental health products, such as hospital indemnity insurance, increased 15%, to $18 million.

American Equity Investment Life Holding Company, West Des Moines, Iowa (NYSE:AEL)

NET INCOME: $9 million

REVENUE: $484 million

NET INCOME: $36 million

REVENUE: $385 mllion

- Net realized gains on investments, excluding other than temporary impairment losses, fell to $1.5 million in the latest quarter, from about $41 million in the fourth quarter of 2009.

- Annuity sales increased 73% in the fourth quarter, to $1.5 billion, net of coinsurance.

- The company’s investment spread margin was 3.14% over the cost of money. American Equity says it has responded to falling rates by cutting rates on new annuities and now is starting to see its own yields rise again.

- Worldwide life and health operations are reporting 268 million euros in net income from continuing operations for the latest quarter, down from 375 million euros in net income from continuing operations for the fourth quarter of 2009.

- Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America is reporting $472 million in operating profits from 2010 on $11 billion in premium revenue, compared with $800 million in operating profits on $9 billion in premium revenue for 2009.

- In North America, sales of fixed annuities increased 19%, to $7.1 billion. Sales of variable annuities incresed 27%, to $3.2 billion.

Aegon N.V., The Hague, Netherlands (NYSE:AEG)

4Q 2010 Results

NET INCOME: 318 million euros

REVENUE: 12 billion euros

4Q 2009 Results

NET INCOME: 393 million euros

REVENUE: 11 billion euros.

- Overall new life sales held steady at about 558 million euros.

- Transamerica and other Americas operations are reporting $643 million in net underlying earnings for the latest quarter on $4.7 billion in revenue, up from $610 million in net income on $4.7 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2009.

- Direct accident and health production in the Americas increased to $180 million, from $144 million.
