Thomas Considine is now the commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.

A New Jersey state supreme court judge administered the oath of office to Considine Wednesday. Considine was a vice president of legal affairs at MetLife Inc., New York, before being nominated for the commissioner post.

New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie, R, defeated the incumbent, Jon Corzine, D, in the polls in November 2009.

Considine nominated Considine to be commissioner Jan. 15, and the New Jersey Senate confirmed him Monday.

Considine, 45, succeeds Neil Jasey, a Corzine nominee.

Considine was a founding member of a New Jersey Banking and Insurance Department advisory board.

He also has been a member of the boards of the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia; the Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers, Austin, Texas; the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations, Herndon, Va.; and the New Jersey Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, Newark, N.J.
