Mutual of Omaha, recognizing the reality that Americans are going to work longer in the coming years, has expanded its disability insurance plans, creating a portfolio of DI options. Called “Disability Income Choice Portfolio,” the DI choices allow clients to purchase more than one type of coverage with a single application and underwriting. The portfolio’s four plans are:

  • Short-term accident only
  • Short-term accident/sickness
  • Long-term accident/sickness
  • Business operating expense

The features of the new plans include the following:

  • Benefits available to age 67 (in a nod to longer working lives)
  • Terminal illness benefit as a standard feature
  • Own occupation protection for duration of benefit period
  • Single application covers all portfolio products
  • Express underwriting, 48 hours, on shortterm coverage

Included in the portfolio are many optional riders to make the products customizable:

  • Hospital confinement
  • Return of premium
  • Future insurability
  • Cost of living adjustment
  • Social insurance supplement
