AmeriChoice has agreed to acquire Unison Health Plan of Pennsylvania Inc.

AmeriChoice is a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., that administers health coverage for 1.6 million participants in Medicare, Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program plans in 17 states.

Unison, Pittsburgh, generated $950 million in revenue in 2007 by administering coverage for 370,000 participants in government plans in Delaware, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee.

AmeriChoice already has some operations in Pennsylvania and Tennessee, but it does not have significant plan offerings of its own in Delaware, Ohio and South Carolina, UnitedHealth says.

The price of the deal is not available, but UnitedHealth says it expects Unison managers to stay with the organization after the deal is completed.

AmeriChoice hopes to close on Unison by mid-2008.
