N.J. Carrier Tries On SilverSneakers Program

Horizon Healthcare Services Inc. has signed a 2-year contract for wellness services from Axia Health Management L.L.C.

Horizon, Newark, N.J., is the parent company of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, a company that provides or administers health coverage for 3.2 million people.

Axia, Phoenix, runs the SilverSneakers Fitness Program, which provides free exercise classes designed to improve the strength, flexibility, balance and coordination of older health plan members.

The program also provides access to health club equipment and facilities, such as treadmills, exercise bikes and swimming pools.

Horizon will be offering the SilverSneakers program to members of Medicare managed care plans through a network of 38 fitness center sites.
