Even before Mary Schapiro formally announced that she would be stepping down Dec. 14 as chairman of the SEC, rumors (substantiated and not) were flying over who would succeed her. Mary John Miller, a Treasury Dept. Undersecretary was widely reported as being the front-runner, but she is now widely reported not to be interested in the job. Commissioner Elisse Walter will succeed Schapiro, but for how long? Sallie Krawchek’s name has been floated as a candidate with “star power,” and FINRA’s Rick Ketchum has been mentioned as well.
But who would you, Ms. and Mr. Advisor, like to see heading the agency that oversees you and your partners? What would you like the SEC to focus on, regardless of who is chairman? Is the agency doing a good job of protecting consumers, maintaining orderly and fair markets, facilitating capital formation and regulating you?
