LONDON (HedgeWorld.com)–GAM hired Sean Taylor as an investment director from Soci?t? G?n?rale Asset Management Ltd., London.

Mr. Taylor will manage a global long/short equity hedge fund that still is in the planning stages, said Clare Dobie, group head of marketing for GAM. He also will run long-only mandates.

Mr. Taylor had been head of global equities and head of emerging markets at SG, which is a division of banking firm Soci?t? G?n?rale, Paris. Officials at SG were unavailable for comment on his replacement.

Mr. Taylor’s hiring is part of an expansion at GAM, which also recently hired Avinash Persaud to managed global currencies and Ross Hollyman to manage U.K. equities.

GAM, a unit of UBS AG, Zurich, manages US$27 billion with 59% of that in hedge funds, Ms. Dobie said.
