NU Online News Service, March 28, 2003, 3:15 p.m. EST – The California Public Employees’ Retirement System says Rob Feckner will be the chair of its investment committee this year and Priya Mathur will be the vice chair.
CalPERS helps shape the entire U.S. benefits market because it operates the biggest public pension program in the country and one of the biggest health plans.
The investment committee has been particularly active in asking public corporations to make their financial reports clearer and more comprehensive.
Feckner, a glazier at the Napa Valley Unified School District, was first elected to the CalPERS board in 1999. He is the vice president of the board.
Mathur was elected to the board in January as a representative of public agency employees. She is a financial analyst for the Bay Area Rapid Transit District.
CalPERS also announced that Sidney Abrams will be the chair and George Diehr the vice chair of its influential health benefits committee.
Abrams was appointed to the board by California Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, in 2001 as a representative of the insurance industry. He is an actuary with more than 30 years experience with insurance companies and pension plans, CalPERS says.
Diehr was elected to the board in January as a representative of California State University employees and other state employees. He is a management professor at the California State University campus in San Marcos, Calif.
