One Document I’ll Place on My (Revised) Advisory Firm Website

In last week's blog, part four in a series on developing processes and procedures in my RIA firm, I reported making progress on a couple of fronts, namely, the website and our new CMS, Redtail. In the midst of this, I met with a prospective client who has agreed to engage us. There are certainly a lot of balls that must be kept in the air when you run an independent advisory shop. In this posting, I'd like to provide an update on the progress of our new website.

Website

As previously mentioned, this is our third site. Although the first one was rather simple, it did give us a presence on the web. The second had great potential, but when it' designer decided to change his business, the website never saw full development. This one I believe will surpass the first two and allow us to greatly enhance our business. Without delving into all the details, let's discuss one particular feature which I believe will be very beneficial.

Several years ago I wrote about a questionnaire I had developed entitled, "What's Important to You." Considering all the topics I have addressed on this blog, this one received a great deal of interest—99% of those responding wanted a copy of it and one reader even accused me of trying to profit by it. I suppose I could see his point, if I were trying to market it. But I wasn't, and haven't. In any event, I digress.

I plan to put this questionnaire on the site whereby a prospective client can answer the questions and view their score. In short, this questionnaire lists the things that I routinely do, and asks the respondent to place a priority on each item. Then it will tally the answers and give a numeric score. Let's say they score 95%. This would be an indication that I can provide what they seek and suggest a face-to-face meeting. If their score is low, then perhaps they should look for a different advisor. In addition, I will be able to download their answers and create a report in Excel.

It's a very simple concept that I hope will assisting clients with this important decision.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!
