Iowa regulators have scheduled a hearing on a proposed regulation requiring training for agents selling long term care insurance.

The Iowa Insurance Division will hold the meeting July 24 at its offices in Des Moines to discuss specific training requirements.

“This additional training is necessary due to the complex nature of long term care insurance products and to ensure that an insurance producer is able to adequately explain to a consumer how long term care insurance products work,” the division says.

If adopted, the new rule would become effective Oct. 3, and insurance producers and companies would have to be able to show compliance by Jan. 1, 2009.
