A large wholesale insurance broker is rebranding its benefits business.

AmWINS Group Inc., Charlotte, N.C., is changing the name of a benefits unit that includes National Employee Benefit Companies Inc., Warwick, R.I., and several other businesses to AmWINS Group Benefits.

AmWINS is in the process of selling stock to the public for the first time, and it changed its own name to AmWINS, from American Wholesale Insurance Group Inc., in November 2006.

AmWINS acquired NEBCO, a company founded and still run by Samuel Fleet, in 2000.

The AmWINS benefits business now includes the Web-TPA and BrokerNetUSA units as well as NEBCO, and the benefits business administers plans with a total of about 380,000 members, AmWINS says.

AmWINS is rebranding the benefits business to reflect the growth of the business, a shift to a broader mix of products, and the rebranding of the parent company, AmWINS says.
