Benefit Advisors Network to Separate From Alera Group

The organization supports 92 advisory and consulting firms.

Perry Braun — the longtime head of Benefit Advisors Network and a sister organization, National Benefit Center — said he’s acquiring those organizations from their parent, Alera Group.

Braun has been working as a performance improvement executive at Alera Group since 2021.

He now is president and CEO at BAN and National Benefit Center.

The Solon, Ohio-based firms provide products, support services and coaching for about 92 employee benefits advisory firms and consulting firms in the United States and Canada.

The price of the deal and other transaction terms were available.

What It Means

Separating BAN from Alera Group ” will mutually benefit both companies and allow BAN to ramp up and re-focus on providing members with the resources they need to deliver standout services to their clients,” Braun said in a comment on the transaction.

The History

Benefits firms started BAN in 2002.

Braun was the executive director of BAN and the National Benefit Center from 2011 through 2021.

In 2017, while Braun was there, BAN and National Benefit Center helped form Alera Group, a private equity-backed organization that united 24 insurance agencies, benefits firms and wealth management firms.

Braun gave up the reins at BAN and National Benefit Center to become the managing director for business consulting at Alera. One of his business consulting projects was setting up a premium finance program for Alera firms that operate in the property and casualty insurance sector.

Over the years, he also has been active as an author for ThinkAdvisor and other insurance and benefits publications.
