CFP Board Teams With Ballentine Partners on Diversity Scholarship

Four annual awards worth up to $5,000 each will be offered to 16 Black and Hispanic or Latino students pursuing CFP certification.

The CFP Board Center for Financial Planning and Ballentine Partners have launched a new, diversity-focused scholarship designed to advance the financial planning profession by increasing the number and diversity of certified financial planners, they said Monday.

As part of the Ballentine Partners Scholarship to Create a Diverse Financial Planning Profession, four annual awards will be granted worth up to $5,000 each to 16 qualified students who identify as Black or African American or Hispanic or Latino and are pursuing CFP certification.

The scholarship was announced less than two weeks after the center said it teamed with Parsec Financial to launch the Parsec Financial CFP Certification Diversity Scholarship to advance diversity in the financial planning profession.

The center administers scholarships to help qualified individuals complete the education requirement as part of CFP certification.

The scholarship that is being offered in collaboration with Ballentine will help the center “achieve its mission to create a more diverse and sustainable financial planning profession,” according to the organizations.

“We believe that supporting diversity among the next generation of the financial planning community is vital to the future of our industry,” said Drew McMorrow, CEO and president of Ballentine Partners. The scholarship will help bring “new voices into the profession,” he said in a statement.

Eligible scholarship candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate, certificate or graduate-level CFP Board-registered program.

The deadline to apply for a 2021 scholarship is Oct. 10. The application and further information about the Ballentine Partners Scholarship to Create a Diverse Financial Planning Profession can be found on the CFP Board’s website.
