Last week, the IRS announced that this year's tax filing season will open January 26 (with a filing deadline of Wednesday, April 15). Taxpayers can access their individual online accounts to access information about payments they've made and access their tax records. Taxpayers should note that they will use a new Schedule 1-A to clam recently enacted deductions under the OBBB (including the temporary deductions for tips, overtime, car loan interest and seniors). The IRS encourages taxpayers to set up direct deposit in order to receive their tax refunds more quickly--and reminds taxpayers that the IRS plans to begin phasing out payer tax refund checks pursuant to a Trump administration executive order. Taxpayers can check on the status of their tax refunds via the IRS.gov website, typically starting about 24 hours after they e-file their returns or four weeks after filing a paper tax return. As always, the IRS advises taxpayers to remain aware of tax scams to prevent fraud. For more information on the federal tax filing requirements, visit Tax Facts Online. Read More: Link to Q647.
