A large managed care company says it will be giving plan members more provider fee information.

CIGNA HealthCare, Bloomfield, Conn., a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, says it will be publishing statistics on average costs by facility for outpatient and high-tech radiology services.

The database will offer specific facility costs for colonoscopies, endoscopies, cardiac catheterizations and 13 other outpatient surgical procedures that account for a majority of facility-based ambulatory surgeries, according to CIGNA HealthCare.

The database also will offer average costs by provider for magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography and computed tomography scans.

In any given market, costs for an MRI can range from a low of $350 to a high of $1,100, CIGNA HealthCare reports.

The company also is offering a “star-based” scoring system that will rate the quality and cost efficiency of physician specialists.
