NU Online News Service, March 18, 2003, 10:55 a.m. EST – HealthNet Inc., Los Angeles, says it will get out of the Pennsylvania commercial managed care market by the end of the year because the market is too competitive.

HealthNet will shut down most of its commercial health plans in Pennsylvania Sept. 30, and it will stop providing coverage for federal workers in Pennsylvania Dec. 31.

HealthNet will continue to maintain a Pennsylvania provider network for HealthNet members in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York who want to use doctors and hospitals in eastern Pennsylvania.

HealthNet has been providing major medical coverage for 1.1 million people in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York but only 32,000 in Pennsylvania.
