The federal government is giving more employees access to 2 account-based plans from Aetna Inc.[@@]
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has agreed to let Aetna offer the account-based plans in 91 markets, up from 45 markets today, according to Aetna, Hartford.
Aetna will offer employees a choice between a health savings account plan, which requires use of high-deductible health insurance, and a health reimbursement arrangement, a similar type of plan that can be used with health insurance plans with any level of deductible.
Aetna began selling HRA plans to federal employees in 2004. The company added HSA plans for federal employees this year.
In 2006, new features of the account-based plans will include a no-fee debit card , Aetna says.
