Benefits Broker Hires Janet Trautwein to Head Compliance

The policy veteran directed the group that became National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals for 18 years.

A woman who represented health insurance agents in Washington for 18 years has a new job.

Janet Trautwein is now a compliance and government affairs executive at Warner Pacific, a Westlake Village, California-based general agency that supports health benefits brokers and about 70,000 employer groups in California, Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas.

Trautwein began working for the National Association of Health Underwriters, the organization now known as the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals, in 1997, and she took over as its CEO in 2005.

She helped agents and brokers communicate with Congress and federal agencies as the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug plan programs came to life, and as the Affordable Care Act framework for the commercial health insurance market took shape.

She announced plans to leave NABIP earlier this year.

She was a benefits broker in Texas before she began working for NABIP, and she is now an approved instructor of continuing education for health insurance and human resources professionals in all 50 U.S. states.
