Senate Panel Approves Labor Secretary Nominee

Julie Su will now get a confirmation vote in the full Senate.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee approved by an 11-10 vote Wednesday the nomination of Julie Su as the new Labor secretary.

President Joe Biden on March 14 officially sent Su’s nomination to the Senate.

The HELP Committee is chaired by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

Su, currently deputy Labor secretary, would replace Marty Walsh, who left his post in March to become the head of the National Hockey League players’ union.

Her nomination now moves to the full Senate for a vote.
