Walter Bixby to Lead Kansas City Life

Bixby will succeed his brother, R. Philip Bixby, who has retired as the company's president and CEO.

The board of Kansas City Life Insurance Co, has elected Walter Bixby to succeed his brother, R. Philip Bixby, as the company’s president and chief executive officer.

R. Philip Bixby is the great-grandson of an early Kansas City Life president, J.B. Reynolds. He has been the company’s president and CEO since 1998 and its chairman since 2004.

Walter Bixby has worked for Kansas City Life for about 40 years and became an assistant vice president in 1985. He has been the company’s vice chairman since 2005, and he has been the president of two Kansas City Life subsidiaries: Old American and Grange Life.

Kansas City Life was founded in 1895. It sells life insurance, annuities and group insurance products in 49 states and the District of Columbia.

The company reported $11 million in net income on $511 million in revenue.
