DOL's Walsh to Launch Retirement Security Roundtables
The discussions will focus on current retirement security policies for workers and possible areas for reform.
Labor Secretary Marty Walsh plans to launch a series of roundtable discussions on retirement security starting April 25 in New York City.
Among those joining the Monday roundtable on building better retirement security for workers are: Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y.; New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli; American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten; BlackRock Managing Director Anne Ackerley; Jennifer Brown, tax counsel in the Office of Sen. Robert Menendez; and Teresa Ghilarducci of the New School for Social Research’s Schwartz Center for Economic Policy.
The roundtable will review current retirement security policies and discuss areas for reform.
In the coming months, Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend — Walsh’s special assistant on retirement policy — will host similar discussions around the country.
The conversations will focus on:
- Encouraging all employers to offer auto-enrollment plans so that employees can easily save;
- Making it easy to carry one’s retirement benefits from job to job; and
- Transforming lump-sum payments to lifetime income that is affordable and easy to understand.
