MassMutual Opens 17-Story Building in Boston

The company says the tower has room for about 1,000 workers.

Leaders from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance and other organizations cut the ribbon earlier this week on a big new MassMutual office tower in Boston.

The 170-year-old, Springfield, Massachusetts-based life insurer says the 17-story, 310,000-square-foot building has room for about 1,000 workers.

The building is part of the $4 billion Fan Pier development on Boston Harbor.

Barings, a MassMutual asset management affiliate, is in charge of that project. Fan Pier will offer a total of about 3 million square feet of commercial, residential and community space, MassMutual said in the ribbon-cutting announcement.

MassMutual noted that the Fallon Co., the developer in charge of the MassMutual tower, finished it on schedule, in spite of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

MassMutual is celebrating completion of the project by giving $1 million to King Boston, to support the nonprofit’s Center for Economic Justice program. The company is also donating a floor in the new tower to MassChallenge, a program that supports organizers of new companies.
