Web Broker Aims to Hire Hundreds of Medicare Sales Agents

EHealth said it offers uncapped commissions and paid licensing costs.

A web-based health insurance broker is preparing to hire hundreds of new career agents to help it sell Medicare plans.

The company, eHealth Inc., said it needs the new agents for the Medicare annual election period for 2022, which is set to start Oct. 15.

EHealth did not say how many new agents it expects to add, but it said it intends to “more than double the number of in-house Medicare agents over last year’s figure.”

The company says in its Form 10-K annual report for 2020 that, on Dec. 31, 2020, it had 1,960 full-time employees. About 1,190 of the full-time employees were in customer care and enrollment. It has been relying on a mix of career and vendor agents.

Executives said last year that it will shift to relying mainly on career agents because they have been much more productive than the outside agents.

Some of the newly hired agents will work remotely, and others will work near eHealth sales centers in Austin, Texas; Golden River, California; Indianapolis; and Salt Lake City,

“EHealth offers competitive salaries with uncapped commissions,” the company said in a hiring announcement. “Successful candidates will receive paid training, paid licensing costs, and medical, dental, and vision benefits from the first day of employment. Among other benefits, eHealth offers employees a generous PTO and holiday schedule, tuition reimbursement, leadership development, and a company-matching 401(k) program.”
