Half of Advisors Look for Market Downturn Next Year: SEI

Geopolitical uncertainty rattles a majority of advisors and their clients.

Forty-eight percent of financial advisors expect a market downturn to occur in 2020, and 44% think one will happen in 2021 or 2022, according to a midyear pulse-taking conducted by Independent Advisor Solutions by SEI.

Asked what factors were top of mind for themselves and their clients, 60% of advisors cited geopolitical uncertainty, 19% a big market correction and 17% a trade war.

SEI noted in a statement that at a time of market uncertainty across the industry, it is incumbent on advisors to educate clients — and themselves — about emotional biases and to build trust further.
