Census Bureau information is a great, free tool for any financial professional with an interest in marketing, or shaping public policy. Here’s the second in a series of five articles we’re running this week about what key indicators look like when you break the numbers down by U.S. House of Representatives district.
The oldest baby boomers are now 72.
They might be of an age to start to asking their elected officials, “So, what have you done about long-term care services lately?”
We looked at which U.S. House members might face the most frequent questions along those lines by analyzing a batch of American Community Survey comparative demographic estimates data. The latest numbers available were from 2016. We ranked districts by the percentage of residents in the recent retiree stage of life: ages 65 to 74.
The recent retiree percentage ranged from 4.8%, in the 33rd District, in Texas, up to 20.6%, in the 11th District in Florida. The median is 8.8%.
Four of the top five districts for the recent-retiree population are in Florida.
To keep Florida from dominating the list, we created a list showing the top five districts for recent-retiree population outside of Florida. You can see the results in the slideshow above.
