Individual Disability Sales Climb: Gen Re
Total U.S. individual disability insurance premium revenue rose at a moderate pace.
Insurers increased sales of U.S. individual disability insurance 9.1% in 2017, to $402 million.
Analysts at Gen Re, a Portland, Maine-based arm of Berkshire Hathaway, have published those figures in a summary of the results from the reinsurer’s latest individual disability market survey.

Fifteen companies participated in the survey.
Total individual disability premium revenue increased 2.3%, to $4.7 billion.
The number of in-force policies increased 0.8%, but the number of new policies in-force increased 9.6%.
The number of new guaranteed renewable policies sold increased 23%, Gen Re analysts say.
