AHIP names five board members

America’s Health Insurance Plans, a trade group for health insurers, has named five new board members.

The Washington-based group says the new board members will be:

    • John Baackes, chief executives of Los Angeles-based L.A. Care Health Plan.

    • Thomas Crowell, president of Watertown, Massachusetts-based Tufts Health Plan.

    • Dr. J.D. Hickey, chief executive officer of Chattanooga, Tennessee-based BlueCross BlueShield of Tennesse.

    • Pamela Morris of Dayton, Ohio-based CareSource.

    • Michael Neidorff, chairman of St. Louis-based Centene Corp.

Centene is a publicly traded company best known for selling Medicaid plans and public exchange plans. The other four carriers are nonprofit carriers.

Joseph Swedish, the chairman of Indianapolis-based Anthem, a publicly traded company, is set to become the AHIP chairman in 2017. Swedish will succeed Mark Ganz, the chief executive officer of Cambia Health Solutions of Portland, Oregon.
