Advisors Michael Kitces and Caleb Brown announced Monday the launch of JobsFP, a recruiting website focused exclusively on listing job opportunities within the independent financial planning community.

“While there are many jobs boards that offer opportunities for those who wish to affiliate with a broker-dealer or custodial platform to become a financial advisor and build a client base, we’ve continued to hear that firms hiring for employee staff positions struggle to find candidates,” said Michael Kitces, partner and director of research at Pinnacle Advisory Group and a ThinkAdvisor contributor.

The standalone job board is being launched by New Planner Recruiting, the website that Kitces and Caleb Brown launched in 2011 that specializes in placing students graduating from Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards-registered programs at firms seeking to fill entry-level, full-time professional planning positions.

“We have had lots of job seekers contact us via New Planner Recruiting that we cannot place due to timing, philosophy, skill set, geography, etc., but they might be really good candidates for another firm, so we wanted to provide another avenue for these job seekers to connect with firms looking to hire,” added Brown, CFP and chairman of the Financial Planning Association’s NexGen group. “There will be verification that every posting is indeed from a legitimate financial planning firm to ensure that the site won’t be littered with non-planning-related jobs.”

Kitces added that JobsFP’s goal is to be a “central go-to point” for financial planning firms that are looking to hire.

Candidates will be able to register for JobsFP and post their resumes for hiring firms to review. Financial planning firms are eligible to list a position on the site, with postings starting at $99 a month.

Kitces and Brown added that firms utilizing JobsFP for hiring will also have access to discounts on candidate screening services from New Planner Recruiting, including background checks and financial planning competency exams.

“There are few industry-specific job boards, and most do not have an emphasis on financial-planning firms,” explained Brown, in an interview, “and we already have folks posting their resumes on the site today.”

Placement for candidates is likely to happen within independent RIAs and independent broker-dealer firms, he adds.
