The launch of the health insurance marketplace is a pivotal turning point in the history of health care in our nation.

Now, every American and every business will have the opportunity to be insured and to provide insurance for their employees.

In the Affordable Care Act, the government also looked to offer more choice and provided funding to develop CO-OPs — consumer operated and oriented health insurance companies — for individuals and businesses.

At Land of Lincoln Health — the first and only CO-OP in Illinois — we very much want to work with agents and brokers to get the word out about what we can offer.

Land of Lincoln Health is a nonprofit health insurance company with a primary focus on improving services for our members.

Our company was developed with a $160 million loan from the federal government. Any extra revenue we collect will be put back into the system to provide better benefits and more affordable premiums.

The ability to get health insurance from a nonprofit organization may be a new option for many health insurance buyers, and especially for small businesses that are considering insurance options for their employees.

In Illinois, we are one of only two insurance companies that provide options for individuals and businesses throughout the entire state.

We’ve developed plans with large networks and out-of-state coverage, and we’ve developed plans with total cost in mind, considering not just the monthly premium cost but also the cost of the yearly deductible and other out-of-pocket costs.

Our plans, prices and programs were all built to ensure that we will be a sustainable, member-focused insurance company for years to come.
