WHO finds violence against women is ‘shockingly’ common

A shocking statistic indeed, 35 percent of women around the world have been raped or physically abused, according to a recent World Health Organization study. The study finds that the residual health impacts from the trauma — depression, alcoholism and myriad other long-lasting mental and physical problems — can even manifest themselves in subsequent generations.
