Indiana schools’ dilemma: Offer health insurance to part-timers or cut hours

When the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was being penned, the act — seen by both advocates and detractors as a noble undertaking — may have not contemplated the impact some provisions could have on employees in certain industries. Schools in Indiana are currently contemplating cutting back noncertified employees’ hours in order to avoid having to provide them health insurance, which the district says it can’t afford.
