PPACA repeal bill reaches House floor

Members of the House today voted 229-195 to pass H.R. 45, a bill that would repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA).

All Republicans voted for the bill; all but two Democrats — Jim Matheson of Utah and Mike McIntyre, D-N.C. — opposed it. 

In the Senate, where Democrats continue to hold a majority of the seats, leaders have declined to bring earlier appeal bills to the floor.

Democrats have said they believe the bill is the 37th attempt to repeal PPACA.

Ken Hoagland, president of RepealItNow.org, a group that supports H.R. 45, put out a statement blasting Senate Democrats’ refusal to let PPACA repeal bills get to the Senate floor.

“Only 35 percent of Americans approve of ObamaCare,” Hoagland said, shortly before the vote started. “The House will signal today in this new session of Congress that it still believes it important to faithfully represent the American people. Liberal pundits, Democratic Senators and the president himself will mock such faithfulness as irrelevant. They will once again indicate their contempt for representative democracy and the plain meaning of ‘consent of the governed.’”
