Minnesota Life launched Omega Builder IUL, which includes the Income Protection Agreement (IPA) that allows policy owners to arrange for the death benefit to be paid as an irrevocable settlement option in a combination of installment payments and lump sum payouts.

“The IPA offers advantages to the policy owner and the beneficiaries,” said Ben Roth national sales vice president, Minnesota Life. “The policy owner has an opportunity to generate more cash value while he or she is alive. It also allows the policy owner to establish a stream of income for the beneficiaries.”

The flexibility provided by the IPA, which must be selected when the policy is issued, allows the policy owner to create an income stream for beneficiaries that will grow at a fixed rate. The tax-advantaged cash value in the policy can be used for any number of life events including retirement income, charitable giving, college tuition or the down payment on a home.

The Retirement Income Industry Association (RIIA) named Anna M. Rappaport, FSA, MAAA, the winner of its 2013 Practitioner Thought Leadership Award for her paper:  “Insights to Support Better Retirement Planning: Implications of and Key Findings from Recent Society of Actuaries Research.”

Rappaport is chair of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) Committee on Post Retirement Needs and internationally recognized expert on retirement systems and workforce issues.

Her paper includes the findings of two new SOA co-sponsored studies, Running Out of Money and The New American Family, and offers insights for financial advisors who want to better serve the post-retirement needs of the middle income market. One notable highlight from the paper is the call for advisors to employ holistic rather than product strategies in helping Americans build their retirement-income plan.

In addition to receiving this unique award, Rappaport will have her paper published in the Spring 2013 issue of the Retirement Management Journal (RMJ).

Rappaport will be presented with the award at the RIIA Spring Conference March 18, 2013 in Chicago, IL at the Morningstar offices.
