With the cost of health care on the rise, the Foundation of the American Board of Internal Medicine has sponsored the Choosing Wisely campaign, which has expanded a list of procedures physicians shouldn’t do from 45 last year to a whopping 135 this year. The point isn’t to ration care that people need; the point is that more procedures does not necessarily mean better care, and plenty of procedures are simply wasteful, with no positive health effect.
