Hospitals gamble on urgent care clinics to keep patients healthy

The quick service at urgent care centers could be the solution to take some of the burden off of hospital emergency rooms. Hospitals already own about 25 percent of the nearly 9,000 urgent care clinics in the U.S. With insurers and Medicare starting to pay providers to keep patients healthy, the clinics could start playing a bigger role in hospital strategy.
