The Joint Commission is still emphasizing the basics in the national patient safety goals for its long term care accreditation program.
The commission has posted the 14 2013 safety goals on its website.
The first goal is that nursing homes and other LTC facilities should make sure that they can tell patients apart. The last goal on the lists deals with efforts to prevent pressure ulcers.
The commission asks LTC facilities to meet the first goal by using at least two separate resident identifiers when providing care, treatment and services for patients that the provider doesn’t know personally.
