Mitt Romney could see increased support from conservatives thanks to his running mate Paul Ryan’s tough approach to overhauling the federal budget. Romney could also lose a lot of support from seniors who don’t like Ryan’s proposal to transform Medicare into a voucher-like program. The proposal would control Medicare’s growth with a cap on payments and let seniors buy health coverage on the private market. This would only affect people under age 55, not current seniors. In Florida, seniors age 65 and up are a force as they make up 18% of the state’s population and more than 25% of the state’s registered voters.
