UnitedHealthcare’s Golden Rule Insurance Company has introduced a critical illness insurance plan for individuals and families that provides cash payments to plan participants who are diagnosed with serious illnesses or conditions. Living expenses and out-of-pocket medical costs are just some of the options that the cash benefit can be used to cover.

People enrolled in the critical illness insurance plan can receive a lump-sum benefit payout if they are diagnosed with a specified illness or condition, such as cancer, heart attack, stroke or paralysis. Consumers can choose their coverage amount, available in $10,000 increments up to $50,000.

“Our new critical illness plans can provide financial protection as a supplement to health insurance or to help take care of daily living expenses if family income drops as a result a serious illness or injury,” said Richard A. Collins, CEO of Golden Rule.

Golden Rule’s new critical illness insurance plans are now available to individuals and families in 21 states including Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa,  Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina,  Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina,  South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. Applicants are not required to have any other insurance plans through Golden Rule or its affiliates.
