In February, GiveForward had raised about $3.5 million for various medical causes. Just a few months later, the online fundraising site that helps friends and family raise money for someone in need, has seen more than 200,000 people contribute $16 million to everything from medical expenses to disaster recovery. Co-founder and COO Ethan Austin said his aim is to work with more hospitals and help patients connect with potential fundraisers. In the last year, the company has been a resource to 200 hospitals, "but there are over 6,000 hospitals around the country, Austin said. GiveForward was founded in 2008, and is a for-profit taking 7% of donations. "We keep a little less than 5% to cover credit card fees," Austin said.
