HandshakeThis week in new hires, Rico Casares joined Genworth Wealth Management; Stratos Wealth Partners welcomed three advisors to two new offices; Sherry Rexroad became the CIO of a new team at BlackRock; and the Hedge Fund Association named Adam Steinberg to head its new chapter in China.

Also, Beverly Hills Wealth Management named Steven Stahlberg as director of its western division; Austin Moon went to UAT Inc.; LIMRA hired Paul DeSimone as head of compliance; and Michael Davis joined Beringer Harvard.

Genworth Wealth Management Adds Casares

Genworth Financial Wealth Management (GFWM), a subsidiary of Genworth Financial, announced Tuesday that Rico Casares has joined its practice management consulting team.

Casares has worked with broker-dealers for nearly 20 years. In his new position, he will be responsible for the southeast and report to Matt Matrisian, director of practice management.

Stratos Wealth Partners Welcomes Three

Stratos Wealth Partners announced Tuesday the addition of three former Morgan Stanley Smith Barney advisors to their two newly created offices in Logan and Ogden, Utah. The new independent firms, Stratos Wealth Partners and Adams Wealth Advisors, together combine to represent more than $350 million in AUM.

The three advisors, Craig P. Adams, Steve Beierlein and S. Craig Adams, represent more than 100 years of combined industry experience.

BlackRock Appoints CIO to New Global Real Estate Securities Team

BlackRock announced Tuesday the appointment of Sherry Rexroad as CIO for the firm’s new global real estate securities platform, effective immediately. She will report to Mark Howard-Johnson, global head of BlackRock’s real estate securities group.

Rexroad has more than 20 years of experience in real estate securities. Prior to joining BlackRock, she managed global, U.S. and long/short hedge fund mandates. Most recently, she served as senior portfolio manager, REITs-Americas, for Aviva Investors’ global listed real estate securities team. Previously, she was a managing director and portfolio manager with ING Clarion Real Estate Securities. Prior to ING, she worked for AEW Capital Management, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the General Services Administration.

The Hedge Fund Association Adds Steinberg, Expands in China

The Hedge Fund Association (HFA) announced Monday that Adam Steinberg, a financial communications consultant in Beijing, has been tapped to serve as the new director of the HFA’s China chapter.

Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Steinberg advises companies on communications issues that affect reputation and market valuation. He has more than eight years of experience in mainland China and most recently, worked at Hill+Knowlton Strategies in Beijing where he counseled the Nasdaq-listed Chinese company Tudou Holdings, among many others. Beverly Hills Wealth Management Names Stahlberg as Western Division Director

Beverly Hills Wealth Management (BHWM) announced Monday the appointment of Steven Stahlberg as western division director, effective immediately.

Stahlberg joins BHWM with more than 30 years of industry experience. Previously, he was RW Baird’s western regional director; before joining Baird, he was a district manager for Morgan Stanley. The majority of his career was spent at Wachovia and its predecessor firms.

UAT Appoints Austin Moon Partner and Managing Director

UAT Inc. recently announced that it has appointed Austin Moon to its national sales team as partner and managing director.

Moon is a 14-year veteran of the financial services sector. Prior to joining UAT, he served as vice president of new business development at National Planning Corp.

LIMRA Hires New Compliance Head

LIMRA announced Wednesday that it hired Paul DeSimone as head of its compliance and regulatory services group. The appointment was effective May 1. In this new role, he oversees management of LIMRA’s compliance products as well as the regulatory services strategy center. In addition, he will be responsible for developing business growth strategies and innovative product development.

DeSimone has been a regular member and vice chair of LIMRA’s broker-dealer services committee for 15 years. He is president and chief compliance officer of an SEC-registered broker/dealer and principal of a private equity firm. His career background encompasses financial services product development and distribution leadership roles in a variety of positions at LIMRA member companies, including New England Financial, American Skandia, MassMutual and Prudential Financial.

Behringer Harvard Appoints Institutional Sales Director

Behringer Harvard announced Tuesday that Michael Davis has joined the firm as institutional sales director. In this new position, he is responsible for developing institutional channel distribution strategies for the firm’s existing and expanding product portfolio, including sales of alternative and direct investments.

With more than 20 years of experience, Davis was most recently director of investor relations for Gorelick Brothers Capital in Charlotte, N.C. From 2005 to 2008, he was managing director and head trader, debt capital markets, for National City Bank in Cleveland. At JPMorgan/Bank One Capital Markets in Chicago, he was director and trader, portfolio risk management, from 2002 to 2005. He also has previous management experience in Chicago at Deerfield Capital Management; PPM America; Duff & Phelps Credit Rating Co.; Cohen Financial Corp.; and Kenneth Leventhal & Co.
