Certainly the leaders of a great and generous super power, a commonwealth responsible for the well-being of hundreds of millions of people, can throw preconceived ideas aside and find room for compromise when the fiscal fate of the nation appears to be at stake?

Well, not this month.

Ezra Klein of the Washington Post has assesses the flexibility of the Super Committee delegates and finds that the Democrats moved a bit to the right — and the Republicans moved even further to the right.

“Frankly, it’s hard to find even one area in which supercommittee Republicans offered a substantially new compromise,” Klein writes.
