LTC Coverage Available to Those With Severe Health Issues

United Security Assurance of Pennsylvania announced Wednesday the availability of two types of long-term care (LTC) insurance policies for people with severe health conditions like cancer and diabetes.

Substantial health issues often pose problems for people trying to find LTC coverage, and while the new policies are only available in a few states, they may provide a solution for people unable to find coverage elsewhere.

Those with severe health conditions, says the company, such as cystic fibrosis, diabetes, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or osteoporosis, can now find coverage under the company’s LifeStyle Solutions (LSS) and LifeStyle Solutions Select (LSS Select) policies.

These are tax-qualified, pool-of-money plans that are available in the states of Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington.

Bill Neugroschel, CEO of United Security, said in a statement, “Coverage for long-term care costs is the last large, unfunded liability for many Americans. Many of us have coverage for our lives, our medical needs, our houses and our cars, but we often don’t think about how we will cover the cost of long-term care. This is a major gap in our financial planning which long term care insurance like LifeStyle Solutions can address.”

LSS and LSS Select, in addition to being tax-qualified LTC insurance plans, also offer a network of integrated wellness, HomeWorks and care planning service programs. These services, according to the company, “are aimed to help individuals diagnosed with extended health conditions live for decades, and with good long term care they could stand a better chance of staying independent and enjoying those years.”

The company, which is privately held, currently offers products in 19 states, and has expertise in the individual insurance market, especially LTC, home health care, hospital indemnity, and senior life products.
