The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has changed the name of the Securities Valuation Office (SVO) to the Capital Markets and Investment Analysis Office.

The new name for the New York-based office reflects expansion of the services the office offers, according to the NAIC, Kansas City, Mo.

“The Capital Markets and Investment Analysis Office will take on an increased role in assisting Capital markets (money)states to monitor investment risk,” NAIC Chief Executive Officer Therese Vaughan says in a statement about the changes. “It will also serve as a center of expertise to help federal policymakers understand the interaction between the insurance sector and the broader capital markets.”

The office will publish insurance industry financial performance reports based on insurer statutory filings, to help the public track insurance industry trends, officials say.

The office also will post weekly capital markets reports on the NAIC website. The writers of the reports will focus on issues that could affect insurance company investment portfolios.

The current SVO will operate as a division of the new capital markets office, officials say.

The SVO division will continue to oversee the day-to-day credit quality assessment and valuation of securities owned by state-regulated insurance companies, and it will work with NAIC officials in Washington on state and federal legislative matters, officials say.
